Are we all digital already?

Digital is everywhere.

We are surrounded by 3,81 billion internet users and 2,9 billion active users on social media. World goes digital day to day without doubts. But do we really know what does “digital” mean for business conduct?

MIT Center for Digital Business and Capgemini Consulting concluded that “only one-third of companies globally have an effective digital transformation program in place.[1]  In their study they defined an “effective digital transformation program as one that addressed:

  • "The What": the intensity of digital initiatives within a corporation.
  • "The How": the ability of a company

to master transformational change to deliver business results.” No doubt that in the future each and every company will have to adapt to some extent digital products and processes going through digital transformation of the company.

It’s like: “adapt or die” rule. But do we know how to make digital transformation happen? Do we know how it impacts our customer preferences and therefore - our revenue? And finally: do we know how to adjust ourselves as managers and our leadership skills to work in a digital environment?

By “Your Dictionary” [2]: “The digital age, also called the information age, is defined as the time period starting in the 1970s with the introduction
of the personal computer with subsequent technology introduced providing the ability  to transfer information freely and quickly
.”

In this blog we will use “Digital Age” in capital letters to understand it as all essential changes that takes place in the business environment which is made by technology use. In particular: new digital products, new digital channels and new social media.

Do you agree that Digital Age requires other skills from leaders then it used to be before?
